The Problem We Just Solved
You're working with a 50-page contract. You open it in AiFiler, and the interface feels cluttered—too many panels, too many ways to ask the same question. Or you're searching for documents, and the AI sometimes misunderstands what you're actually looking for. Or your document viewer lags when you're scrolling through a large PDF.
We heard this feedback repeatedly over the past two months, and we've shipped fixes for all three.
What Changed
1. Document Views Now Render in White-Paper Style (Regardless of Theme)
We discovered that document viewers were inheriting your workspace theme settings, which meant dark mode users saw documents with dark backgrounds. That's terrible for reading. We've fixed it.
What this means: When you open any document in view mode—whether it's a PDF, Word file, or spreadsheet—you'll now see a clean white background with black text. Your workspace theme still applies everywhere else (sidebar, navigation, settings), but documents always render in a reading-optimized style.
How to try it:
- Open any document (click the title or use the document preview)
- Notice the white background and high-contrast text
- Switch your workspace theme to dark mode (Settings → Appearance)
- The document viewer stays white; the rest of the interface goes dark
This is a small change with a big impact on readability, especially for users working with scanned PDFs or image-heavy documents.
2. Unified Command Now Routes 87 Intents Correctly
The Universal Command (Ctrl+Shift+A on Windows/Linux, Cmd+Shift+A on Mac) is your fastest way to do things in AiFiler. But we noticed it was sometimes routing your requests to the wrong handler. You'd ask to "rename this document" and it would try to move it instead.
We rebuilt the intent router from scratch. It now uses a smarter heuristic system that understands context—whether you're in a document, a folder, or a search result—and routes your command to the right place.
What this means: Commands are more reliable. When you type "add this to client folder," it knows you mean the currently-selected document. When you say "find contracts from Q1," it knows you want a search, not a file operation.
How to try it:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+A (or Cmd+Shift+A)
- Type: "move this to archive"
- The command will correctly identify the active document and show you folder options
- Or type: "search for invoices from 2024" and it routes to search instead
We've documented all 87 supported intents in the command palette itself—just start typing and you'll see suggestions.
3. Collapsed Three Editor Mounts into One Wrapper
This is a technical fix, but it matters for performance. The knowledge view (where you edit documents and metadata together) was mounting the editor three separate times, which caused unnecessary re-renders and memory bloat.
What this means: The knowledge view is now faster, especially when you're working with large documents or have many tabs open. You'll notice less lag when switching between documents and when editing metadata alongside your content.
How to try it:
- Open a document in knowledge view (the default view in most workspaces)
- Open the metadata panel on the right
- Start editing both the document and metadata simultaneously
- You should notice snappier response times, especially on older machines
4. Unified New Document Picker
Before, there were three different ways to create a new document depending on where you were in the app. One button in the sidebar, one in the top navigation, one in the knowledge view. Each one had slightly different behavior.
We've collapsed all three into a single, consistent picker.
What this means: No matter where you are, you create documents the same way. The picker is faster, and it remembers your last choice (if you just created a Word doc, the next time you hit the button, it defaults to Word).
How to try it:
- Look for the blue "+" button in the top-right corner of your workspace
- Click it to see the document type picker
- Choose Document, Spreadsheet, or Presentation
- Create a few documents and notice the picker remembers your preference
5. Security Hardening: Cleared 4 Supabase ERROR Advisors
We ran a security audit and found four low-severity issues in how we handle Supabase errors. None of them were exploitable, but they were sloppy. We've fixed them.
What this means: Your data is more secure. Error messages no longer leak information about your database structure, and we're now properly sanitizing all Supabase responses before they reach the client.
How to try it: You won't notice anything different—that's the point. Security improvements should be invisible.
What's Coming Next
We're working on three things for the next release:
-
Smarter document parsing — Right now, AiFiler extracts text from PDFs and Office files. We're adding support for embedded metadata, form fields, and table structure recognition. This means your spreadsheets and forms will be searchable at a deeper level.
-
Batch operations for metadata — You can already move 1,000 documents at once with Batch Operations. Soon you'll be able to batch-edit tags, descriptions, and custom fields across multiple documents without opening each one.
-
Intent learning — The Universal Command will start learning from your behavior. If you frequently ask "send this to client," it'll start suggesting that action before you finish typing.
How to Report Issues
If you find a bug or have feedback on any of these changes, use the feedback button in your workspace (usually in the bottom-left corner) or email [email protected]. We read every report and prioritize based on impact.
Thanks for using AiFiler. We're building this for you.
